Attack the Castle!!
Results are in for the June Youth Shoot 2021. This one was a challenge shoot, one I thought up a few years ago and really wanted to try! The idea was to pretend the archers were shooting at a castle under siege. The archers shot from 18m and 15m, and did their best to attack the castle.
Windows scored 10 points, the door scored 5, the walls (and roof) scored 1 point and the King scored an instant 100 points.
There were plenty of people who argued the flags ought to count, but I was strict and went with standard archery rules: the flag scores nothing. The blue sky and green grass also scored nothing, although in future years I think increasing the size of the castle to fill the paper might be the best idea!
The kids had fun with this one, even Mountain Green (who shot their round in the pouring rain and had to watch their paper targets slowly dissolve). Auckland kids started their shoot with a rousing chant of ‘Kill the King!’
Congratulations to the following archers who successfully claimed the King:
- Tessa Bolland (Auckland Archery Club) shot it twice!
- Finn Matheson (Auckland Archery Club) also shot it twice!
- Sancho Pacquing (Auckland Archery Club)
- Alexander Weston (Auckland Archery Club)
